Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) Issues Flood Warning Across 12 States as Heavy Rainfall Expected to Trigger Flash Flooding

WEATHER ALERT
Please be aware that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over the country from 19th September 2024. This may result in flash flooding due to the already saturated soil. The streams along the water runoff path may also overflow, contributing to the flooding. The areas at risk of flooding include Borno, most of Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers states.

Advisories:
• Residents in areas prone to flooding are advised to prepare for potential evacuation by identifying higher ground or designated shelters.
• It is crucial to avoid driving or walking through flooded areas, as water levels may rise rapidly and pose a severe threat.
• Please relocate your valuable belongings and livestock to safer places and strengthen buildings when necessary.
• It is advisable to ensure access to clean drinking water and acquire essential supplies. Floodwaters can make water sources dirty and increase the chance of contracting waterborne diseases.
• Stay connected with relevant authorities and emergency services to support vulnerable community members, including children and older people.
• For your safety, it is advisable to consistently monitor weather updates (http://nimet.
