FG Introduces New Local Government Appointment Structure with Salaries Paid Directly from Abuja

The Federal Government has unveiled a new appointment structure for local government administration under the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), ensuring that eight to nine key officials receive their salaries directly from Abuja. Under this framework, each local government will now have a Chairman and Deputy Chairman, along with critical appointments overseeing various sectors. The designated positions include. 1. Chairman . 2. Deputy Chairman . 3. Secretary. 4. Supervisory Councillor for Health. 5. Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture. 6. Supervisory Councillor for Education/Social Services 7. Supervisory Councillor for Works. 8. Statutory Adviser for People with Disability, Humanitarian Service & Traditional Institutions. 9. Statutory Adviser for Security. 10. Statutory Adviser for Youth Development & Community Work. According to official sources, all salaries for these appointees will be disbursed directly by the Federal Government through FAAC, a move aimed at promoting **financial transparency, uniformity, and accountability in local government administration. This restructuring is expected to enhance service delivery at the grassroots level by ensuring efficient governance, proper fund allocation, and improved oversight of key sectors such as health, education, security, and agriculture. Reactions to the new structure have been mixed, with some stakeholders praising the initiative for its potential to curb financial mismanagement, while others question its impact on local government autonomy. As the policy takes effect, further clarifications on its implementation, operational guidelines, and possible adjustments are anticipated from the government.
