NASA Increases Risk of Asteroid 2024 YR4 Hitting Earth to 3.1%—Highest Ever Recorded

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has raised the impact probability of asteroid 2024 YR4 colliding with Earth in 2032 to 3.1%, marking the highest risk assessment ever recorded for an asteroid.

Just two weeks ago, the probability of impact stood at 2.3%, but new calculations have heightened concerns among scientists.

According to NASA, if the asteroid stays on its projected trajectory, several major cities could be at risk, including: Bogotá (Colombia), Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), Lagos (Nigeria) Khartoum (Sudan) Mumbai (India) Dhaka (Bangladesh).

Experts at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) are closely monitoring the asteroid’s path and are expected to release further updates in the coming weeks.

The space agency has assured that global defense systems are being assessed for potential countermeasures, but the growing probability of impact remains a serious concern for the affected regions.
