Microsoft Launches $5 Million AI for Good Open Call Grant Program to Drive Positive Change in Washington State

Microsoft has announced the AI for Good Open Call, a grant program that allocates $5 million to innovative projects aimed at tackling societal and scientific challenges in Washington state. The program invites participation from nonprofits, academic institutions, researchers, startups, and businesses either based in or benefiting the state.

The initiative, unveiled in celebration of Microsoft’s 50th anniversary, seeks to harness the power of artificial intelligence to address pressing issues such as sustainability, public health, education, and human rights. Selected grantees will have access to Microsoft’s cutting-edge AI technology and collaboration opportunities with its AI for Good Lab.

“This program is an opportunity to support organizations addressing Washington's most pressing issues, from sustainable energy to housing affordability,” said Juan Lavista Ferres, Microsoft’s corporate vice president and chief data scientist. “We are confident it will spark innovative solutions to complex challenges.”

Applications are open to entities with projects that demonstrate scalability, innovative use of AI, and high-quality data. Submissions are due by February 17, 2025, with grantees to be announced by March 18, 2025.
