South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Detained for Questioning Over Martial Law Imposition

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been detained for questioning by authorities, following his controversial and short-lived imposition of martial law on December 3, which occurred after his impeachment. The move has sparked heated debates in South Korea about the limits of presidential power and the legalities surrounding the incident.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon described his appearance for questioning as a "voluntary" decision, emphasizing that it was aimed at preventing violence and ensuring public safety. “In order to stop unwanted bloodshed, I made the decision to appear in the prosecutor's office despite the illegality of these actions,” Yoon stated.

The embattled president, who was impeached prior to the martial law declaration, reaffirmed his commitment to upholding South Korea’s Constitution and legal system. However, he firmly rejected the validity of the investigative process, describing it as politically motivated and legally flawed.

The detention marks a significant escalation in South Korea's ongoing political crisis, with Yoon's supporters and critics deeply divided over the issue. Some view the questioning as a necessary step toward accountability, while others see it as a politically charged attack on the presidency.
