The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.
D., has expressed strong concerns over alleged cases of extortion and high-handedness involving members of the Nigeria Police Force. Addressing senior police officers during a recent conference at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for corrupt practices and misconduct.
He urged the Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers to ensure proper supervision and maintain the highest professional standards within their ranks. The IGP also directed various disciplinary units, including the X-Squad and Monitoring Unit, to conduct routine checks on officers' activities, promising strict punishments for those found guilty.
Furthermore, the IGP issued a stern warning against the unethical practice of name-dropping for extortion purposes, pledging severe consequences for any officer who engages in such acts. He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any fraudulent activities involving his name or that of other senior officers.
The IGP's commitment to stamping out corruption and ensuring accountability is seen as a critical step in restoring public trust in the police force.
