Burkina Faso Becomes 85th Member to Ratify Fisheries Subsidies Agreement, WTO Chief Announces on X

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), announced on her X (formerly Twitter) handle that Burkina Faso has ratified the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement, making it the 85th member to do so. She congratulated the country’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, and the government for this achievement, while also thanking Ambassador Sabine Bakyono Kanzie for her efforts in the process.

This ratification marks Burkina Faso's commitment to tackling harmful subsidies that lead to overfishing, contributing to global efforts to preserve marine resources. Okonjo-Iweala's announcement highlights the growing support for the agreement as the WTO moves closer to its full implementation.
